For fear of victimization by the 2016 Presidential Candidate of the opposition New Patriotic Party in the unlikely event he wins the November 7 presidential election, former President Jerry John Rawlings has gleefully joined his wife, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings to rundown the John Mahama-led National Democratic Congress to the advantage of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
The motive of the NDC founder and his wife, The aL-hAJJ gathered, is to warm their way into the hearts of Nana Akufo-Addo in order to tie the hands of the latter not to come after them in the event he succeeds at his third and possibly, last attempt at the presidency.
Investigations by The aL-hAJJ have revealed, the Rawlingses are convinced no NDC government would ever hold them to account for their stewardship, therefore; it is in their best interest to “assist” Akufo- Addo in his Presidential bid to avert a repeat of how the NPP government stripped them of their privileges and nearly had Nana Konadu jailed over corruption charges.
Having also lost their “rightful place” in the party they founded due to their nagging character and thoughtless attacks on the NDC ahead of the 2012 elections, Mr. Rawlings and Nana Konadu have vowed to “partner” Nana Akufo-Addo to ensure the ruling NDC loses the November 2016 elections in order to pave way for them to “take back their party”.
The duo have in recent times gained public notoriety for passing disparaging comments about the Mahama-led NDC government with the aim of slimming its chances of securing a second term mandate.
In furtherance of this ploy, Mr Rawlings and Nana Konadu have been desperately and relentlessly scheming to knock President Mahama and NDC into a defensive position to the benefit of Nana Akufo-Addo and the NPP who have been struggling to kick start their campaign ahead of the November 7 elections.
Just as in the run-up to the 2012 general elections when the former first family openly tongue-lashed the NDC government in their bid to cause the party’s defeat at the polls, Mr Rawlings and his better half have once again adopted similar but, even more intensified strategy.
Barely eight months to the next general elections, the former first couple whose, medical trained daughter, Dr Zanetor Rawlings, is contesting the Klottey Korle seat on the ticket of the ruling party, at the least opportunity, cast the NDC in bad light with the sole intention of giving leverage to Nana Akufo-Addo and the NPP.
Only recently, whilst Nana Konadu did the unthinkable, sending her sponsored dreadful group, Friends of Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings (FONKAR) to pledge support to Nana Akufo-Addo for his presidential bid, Mr Rawlings in turn was also in another distractive “project”, jabbing President Mahama, his predecessor, the late President Mills, and the NDC government for doing little in the fight against corruption.
Apparently strengthening the hands of the opposition NPP who have persistently downplayed President Mahama and the NDC’s effort at fighting the canker, President Rawlings only last week said he doubted if President John Mahama was fighting corruption as he claimed.
In an exclusive interview with GHONE’s Nana Aba Anamoah, the NDC founder, when quizzed if President Mahama was fighting corruption, said “Well, he says he is fighting corruption effectively, I don’t think so, I think he could have done much better,” Rawlings stated.
Mr Rawlings’ wife, Nana Konadu has also never disappointed her followers and NPP folks when it comes to painting the NDC and Mahama government as filthy corrupt. Early this year, the NDP leader audaciously said Mills/Mahama administrations had supervised the most corrupt and reckless regimes in the nation’s history.
“I think the fifth and six Parliament of the Mills/Mahama NDC regime have virtually supervised some of the most unspeakable crimes that we have seen in this country,” Konadu said.
The former first lady also accused President Mahama of hiding behind “flirtation and the use of divisive methods” to cover up his incompetence. She said by so doing, he destroys the very country that he is ruling.
