Yaw Gyamfi, a 15-year-old boy, is accused of attempting suicide by falling into a deep well at Mfuom-Aboabo, a suburb of Dunkwa-on-Offin in the Central Region’s Upper Denkyira East District.
He escaped with injuries but was knocked out and taken to Dunkwa Municipal Hospital for treatment.
According to the information acquired, a JHS Form Two student at Presbyterian Junior High School in Mfuom Aboabo attempted suicide three times due to failing final exams.
The boy’s grandmother described what happened, saying she had left the house for the market and couldn’t find him when she returned. She immediately launched a search, only to discover his sandals near a 40-metre deep hole.
She alerted officials, including the Fire Department, Ambulance Officers, and NADMO, who responded and discovered him in the well at 12 p.m. on Friday, January 14,2022. They had a difficult time rescuing him, but eventually succeeded after several hours.
He was brought to Dunkwa Municipal Hospital, where medics were able to resuscitate him after several hours of unconsciousness.
When he failed the examinations, the student felt upset and rejected, so he decided to commit suicide.
He claims that his coworkers mock him whenever they see him in town while on vacation, and that they will continue to tease him when school reopens on Tuesday, January 18. To escape embarrassment, he chose to terminate his life.
Douglas Amoakoh, the student’s father, also claimed that his son attempted suicide because he was embarrassed by being called on in class.
