The Drobonso Senior High School (SHS) in the Sekyere Afram Plains in the Ashanti Region constructed under erstwhile Mahama administration has become unattractive to hundreds of Junior High School (JHS) graduates who sat for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in area.
According member of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Education, out of the over four thousand students who sat for the recent BECE none of them showed any interest in being enrolled in the Drobonso SHS under the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS)
“From 2016, no graduate has opted to be enrolled in the Drobonso Senior High School meanwhile, it was part of the choice file. Over four hundred thousand students who wrote BECE didn’t opt to choose it”, he revealed in an interview on Kumasi-based local station.
Speaking to the Ghana Education Service (GES)’s cancellation of reopening date of Third year students of SHSs, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Tafo justified government cannot be blamed entirely for the mishap.
“Everybody wants his or her child to attend first class schools leaving others. … And that brings pressure on those schools. But we all cannot attend the big schools like OWASS etc”, the lawmaker pointed out to hosted.
Meanwhile, the government has apologised for the late Communication of the reopening date of the final year students across the country.
