Northern Regional Chairman for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Bugri Naabu says goats, sheep, cattle are clamouring for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to become the flagbearer of the NPP and subsequently President.
To Bugri Naabu the party has in the two times it has governed the country selected persons from the Danquah/Busia traditions and therefore it’s right that this time Dombo is considered to represent the political party as flagbearer.
Bugri Naabu believes that this is the time to go for a representative of Dombo and therefore the party’s rank and file need to rally behind that decision.
“Ashanti have gotten their share; that is former president John Agyekum Kufuor on the ticket of the NPP. The Eastern Region have gotten H.E Nana Akufo-Addo and you all know I was instrumental in making sure that he becomes president. But now, we the northern sector; that’s Upper West, North East, Upper East, Northern Region and Savannah say this should be our time. We think that this time, Dr. Bawumia cannot be left aside” he stated in an interview on Accra-based Citi FM.
He said for the North, every Tom, Dick and Harry is rallying behind the the Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and that includes animals.
“All the people of the North including the Chiefs and opinion leaders are all behind Dr. Bawumia to lead the party. Even goats, sheep and cows in Northern Ghana are all crying for Bawumia (to lead NPP). At dawn, you will hear them cry ‘Bawumia, Bawumia, Mahamud, Bawumia, Mahamud, Bawumia!’ They are doing it”.
He cautioned that failure of the Danquah/Busia family to rally behind the Dombo tradition means that they are discriminating against them.
“If the UP/Busia and Danquah family don’t toe the same line with us to get our share then it means they are discriminating against us. If he is not elected then I’m afraid that the family will be divided.”
