IGP to be sued

Counsel for police sergeant, Bawa Abdul Jalil is again heading to court to sue the Inspector General of the Ghana Police, David Asante Apeatu.

Charles Aseidu and Nana Ato Dadzie are dragging the IGP to court over contempt.

The decision follows the IGP’s failure to comply with a Court ruling in favour of Sergeant Bawa Abdul Jalil who was wrongfully interdicted for nine years.

A Tema High Court finally granted the plaintiff’s request and asked the Ghana Police Service to immediately reinstate Seargent Bawa and pay in full his nine years frozen salary.

When contacted, Sergeant Bawa Abdul Jalil bemoaned that, “After going through internal disciplinary proceedings which resulted to my acquittal, the police administration ignored the findings and a further directive from the legal and prosecution department of the police service to reinstate me and pay me all my entitlements was also declined.”

“It was at this stage I resorted to the law Court and battled with the state and the police service for six years four months which finally on the 10th of April 2018 the High Court granted judgement in my favour that I should be reinstated to the rank of my colleagues, pay all my salaries and arrears with the prevailing bank of Ghana interest rates.”

Seargent Bawa further narrated that, “It took the police administration and the state six months and a threat of contempt filed against the IGP before I was reinstated in October 2018 and up till now, the police administration’s lackadaisical approach to fully liberate me from bondage is frustrating.”

“In this regard, I think we have no option than to go back to Court for contempt and Ghanazee the police Account as all procedures have been followed.”

“The judgement certificate has be filed and served on both the Attorney General and the police service after the judgement. In my candid opinion, the police administration is delibrately frustrating me and that is why my lawyers are heading to the Court.”
