Farouk Aliu Mahama, a member of parliament for Yendi, has replied to Kennedy Agyapong’s recent claim that he handed him GHC100,000 to support the chairmanship ambition of the ruling New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Northern Regional chairman.
In a recent interview, Agyapong claimed that he had given Chairman Mohammed A. Baantima Samba’s election campaign a donation of GHC100,000 cedis, which the Assin Central MP claimed was made through Aliu Mahama.
Agyapong claimed that after giving 100,000 cedis, Samba only accepted 40,000 cedis.
But the Yendi politician quickly refuted this on Radio Tamale, calling the notion that he had been given GHc100,000 a fake.
Kennedy Agyapong never provided him the specified amount, according to him, and instead Farouk requested that the MP give whatever amount he thought was suitable. But he didn’t provide a number.
The problem is that Kennedy Agyapong never provided me the 100,000 Ghana Cedis that I was supposed to pay to Samba. He asked me how much he ought to give Samba, and I replied that whatever he thought was reasonable was OK.
“I won’t accept that lie that he gave me such an amount to give to Samba. I won’t deny I do not know him”, Farouk stressed.
Agyapong has openly slammed regional executives in the North, North East and Savannah regions on his tour of the northern regions to campaign for his flagbearership bid for the party.
He has spoken in harsh terms about how regional executives are seemingly sabotaging his visit because they are in support of Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, who is also rumoured to be interested in becoming flagbearer.
“I was in America. Farouk came to my house. He said I should support Samba. I gave him 100 thousand cedis. After that Samba texted me saying, ‘thank you. I got 40 thousand from Farouk.’ Now the same man is dirtying me,” Agyapong is quoted to have said of the donation.
