I will Not Stop Criticizing Government – Yvonne Nelson

Actress and producer Yvonne Nelson has stressed that she will continue to speak out against ills in society and speak truth to power despite receiving death threats in the past.

Nelson organised a massive protest in 2015 over erratic electricity supply, popularly called ‘dumsor’, to put pressure on the then John Mahama government to address the issue.

She said she received many death threats after the vigil but she has remained unfazed ever since.

“I wasn’t afraid at the time when I did the ‘dumsor’ protest until I started receiving death threats,” Nelson said on Asaase Radio’s Between Hours show.

According to the actress, her aim was to make the former government accountable to the people.

“I didn’t want to mislead or lead the people on and just back off from the vigil,” she added.

Speaking to Naa Ashorkor on the show, Nelson revealed that she had to go into hiding before and after the vigil to preserve her life because “the threats were so much that I didn’t even sleep at home, the NDCs were threatening to kill me.”

“I will forever remain this way, when I’m not happy about something about politics, politicians, something around government,” Nelson served notice.
