I Will Cancel E-Levy When I’m President In 2025 – Mahama Promises

Former President John Dramani Mahama has stated that if the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is elected to power, the contentious E-levy will be abolished.

When the NDC comes to power, he claims, the Electronic Transaction Levy would be abolished (E-levy).

On Monday, May 2, 2022, John Mahama stated that while the opposition NDC is not opposed to taxation, it is opposed to taxes that burden the Ghanaian people.

“As a principle, the NDC does not reject taxation.” We shall not be arrogant and use imaginative phrases to attack the notion of taxation, as the NPP did previously. We are, however, adamantly opposed to taxation that is both distortive and oppressive, such as the e-levy, because it just adds to Ghanaians’ suffering.”

“A future National Democratic Congress government would repeal the E-Levy Act in 2025, God willing and with the votes of the sovereign people of Ghana,” he stated.

Despite widespread opposition, the 1.5 percent E-Levy began on Sunday, May 1, 2022.
