I Never Wanted To Be A Star – Okyeame Kwame

Okyeame Kwame says when he started out as a young musician, his drive was not about becoming a celebrity or a music star.

According to him, all he had wanted was his song to be played on radio for people to hear his rap.

But after 22 years of hard work and determination in the music business, he is recognised as one of the biggest music stars around.

The ‘Made In Ghana’ crooner made this known in a series of tweets to his followers after winning the best hiplife video with ‘Bra’ at the 2019 4syte Music Video Awards on Saturday.

“22yrs ago, we started on a hip-life journey with the passion to be heard… I just wanted people to hear my raps. I didn’t want to be a celebrity, I didn’t want to be an icon, I didn’t want to be a star… all I wanted was for my song to be played on radio, just once…,” he revealed.

“….Today, I just want to say THANK YOU. Some of the people we started this with are dead (deceased)… Dasebre3 Dwamena, OmanHene Pozo, Michael Dwamena and many others. 22yrs after my entry, you still like my tweets, buy my music, quote my raps and give me awards,” he added.

“I just want to say THANK YOU AGAIN. Now, I just don’t want you to hear me, I want to be a part of everything that will help develop OUR MOTHER GHANA,” he indicated.

Okyeame is still relevant in Ghana’s music industry after 22 years, and his gratitude seems to know no bounds.

Just last week, another song from his ‘Made In Ghana’album titled ‘Dum Fon No’ made the headline for addressing the issue of how most marriages are collapsing because of partners’ attachment to their phones.
