I Lied To Get My First Radio Job – Abeiku Santana

Ghanaian broadcaster Gilbert Aggrey, known in showbiz as Abeiku Santana, has revealed how he lied his way into getting his first radio job.

Speaking to Frema Adunyame and Nana Tuffour on Citi TV’s ‘Upside Down’ show, he said that after having a stint with Vibe FM in 1996, he went to Koforidua to work with Radio Z (now Eastern FM).

According to him, upon his arrival, he told the Programmes Manager, Kwaku Temeng (deceased) that he was a radio presenter with Vibe FM but travelled to Sierra Leone to work with the United Nations.

He said after telling them all he was capable of doing, he got employed.

“When I didn’t get the space to work at Vibe FM, I heard there was a new radio station in Koforidua, so I went there. That’s where I come from. So I went to Koforidua and approached the late Kwaku Temeng, a veteran broadcaster from the GBC, he was the programmes head and told him I worked with the United Nations,” he said.

“There is a lie called the holy lie. In the Bible, Abraham lied that his wife was his sister, and it got him a safe place to sleep and pass the night. So me too, I went to Koforidua Radio Z and told them that I worked with Vibe FM but with UNICEF, and I was sent to Sierra Leone. I just came, and I’ve heard that there is a radio station in Koforidua. I am so happy,” he said.

He continued that after proving that he could do the job, he was employed until he got poached to Kumasi and later returned to the Greater Accra Region where he played the later afternoon show at Adom FM.

Currently, he is the drive-time host of Okay FM.
