In the upcoming New Patriotic Party flagbearership competition, President Akufo-Addo says he has no favorite.
His goal, according to him, is to maintain the balance and create a level playing field for all contestants.
“It is my responsibility to maintain the balance, to ensure that everyone in our party has a level playing field. The decision must be made by the party, but my position is that whoever the party elects as its flagbearer for 2024 is the person I will support and, God willing, campaign for to become President,” the President said on Pure FM in Kumasi Monday.
He stated again that the NPP is the greatest option for the Ghanaian economy.
“I usually repeat that if the NPP administration had stayed in power after President Kufour, Ghana might have achieved the needed changes, but we didn’t have the opportunity to do so.”
The frontrunners in the NPP flagbearer race so far are Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen and Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia. Others, according to sources, include maverick lawmaker Ken Agyapong, former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko, Railway Minister Joe Ghartery, and Agriculture Minister Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto.
The party’s flagbearer will most likely be chosen in 2023.
