Highway Robber Killed By Police at Sawla

Police in the Savanna Region Have confirmed the killing of a suspected armed robber who along with his colleagues attempted early this morning to rob passengers on vehicles that were travelling further North to neighbouring Burkina Faso. The incident happened near Sawla and the body of the deceased has since been deposited at the Sawla – Tuna – Kalba District Hospital for autopsy.

Four other suspects who along with the dead robber opened fire as police intervened to stop the robbery incident managed to escape and police are on their heels.

According to Sawla District Police Commander, police patrol team received reports of ongoing robbery at a community called Danniwuri and quickly rushed to the scene to save the victims. But the robbers upon seeing the police opened fire and in return the police killed one of them as the others managed to abscond into a nearby forest. ASP Adjei De-graft Armah said the the vehicles robbed included two passenger vehicles and two Burkina bound long vehicles.

Armed robbery incident have become rampant across the country in recent times and police seemed to have launched a shoot to kill operation in order to subdue crime. Just last month, an armed robber was killed on the Accra – Nsawam highway as he and an accomplice opened fire on police as they tried to rescue a man they were about to rob.
