Help govt improve lives of Ghanaians – Otumfuo to chiefs

Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has urged traditional leaders to work with government as nodes of continuity to improve the life of Ghanaians.

The Asante monarch who doubles as Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) said due to the firsthand relationship that exists between chiefs and the people in their respective communities, the chiefs are much abreast of the needs and aspirations of the masses.

This, he said, is a great tool that can be employed to assist the central government to fashion out the right policies and strategies for the betterment of the nation.

Otumfuo was speaking at the opening of the Chancellor’s Week in celebrating 20 years of his reign on the golden stool. It was organised by KNUST in collaboration with the Manhyia Palace on Monday, 15 April 2019.

He said the 20-year anniversary marks the dawn of a new beginning in the Ashanti Region to tap into opportunities in line with government programmes, working in partnership with corporate Ghana to venture into sectors that generate economic benefits for Asanteman in particular and Ghana in general.

For his part, the Chairman of the KNUST Council, Nana Effah-Apenteng described Otumfuo as an ardent peacemaker.

He said the chancellor of the university has provided sterling leadership and has been a trailblazer in many fields.

Nana Effah-Apenteng said a week-long activities have been designed in Otumfuo’s honour by the university, and also to celebrate the successes he has chalked for the university, Asanteman and the nation as a whole.
