Government’s free water policy extended

The government’s free water policy has been extended to the end of the year, 2020.

In a statement signed by Hon. Cecelia Abena Dapaah — the minister of Sanitation and Water Resources —, this new directive was given by President Nana Addo.

The statement reads:

“PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE PUBLICATION / RELEASE

GOVERNMENT FREE WATER POLICY EXTENDED TO THE END OF THE YEAR, 2020

The general public is hereby informed that H.E. the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo DanIcwa Akufo- Addo has extended the policy on “Free Water For All Ghanaians” for another three months from 1st October to 31st December, 2020.

2. This is to enable Ghanaians continue with the protocols especially the washing of hands under running water, to help fight the covid-19 pandemic.

3. The Ministry appeals to consumers to use water judiciously in the observance of the protocols. 4. The Ministry further wishes to urge all landlords and tanker service providers to refrain from charging or selling water to consumers as Government is paying for the water.”
