The government, led by Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, will withdraw the contentious E-Levy bill now before Parliament next week.
The bill, on the other hand, will be re-laid right away.
Deputy Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin revealed this during the presentation of the upcoming week’s business statement.
Minority Chief Whip Muntaka Mubarak, on the other hand, wanted assurances from the majority and the administration on how the bill would proceed.
According to the Asawase MP, the administration should not hurry the bill back to parliament under a certificate of urgency, but instead give the Finance Committee time to conduct stakeholder discussions.
The government has suggested a 1.75 percent fee on all electronic transfers to assist lower the country’s debts while also allowing it to meet Ghanaians’ expanding needs.
Even though the government has resorted to hosting town hall meetings to educate members of the public on the importance of accepting the E-levy bill, which is intended to broaden the government’s tax base, a sizable portion of the public remains opposed to the controversial levy.
