Government To Set Up Minerals Development Bank – Deputy Minister Of Lands And Natural Resources

Ghana’s government plans to establish a Minerals Development Bank (MDB), according to Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources George Mireku Duker.

The MDB will provide loans to small-scale miners throughout the country, among other things.

“The minerals bank would be to assist small-scale miners since as a Ministry, we cannot give such individuals facilities, thus we are supporting the miners,” the Deputy Minister said on 3FM’s Sunrise on Thursday.

“For the time being, we are engaging the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) to offer some facilities to these folks,” he stated.

“The banks will provide you with a loan, and the Minerals Commission will act as a guarantor by purchasing the equipment on your behalf because they have certified small-scale miners.”

“That would cut the links and dealings with the Chinese,” Mr. Duker observed. Because having a license does not obligate you to drive unlawfully, this would also eliminate the illegalities.”
