Government Bringing Back Tollbooths But Will Automate Them – Ken Agyapong

Tollbooths will be reintroduced by the government, but they will be automated to boost revenue collection, according to Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, member of Parliament for Assin Central.

“The Finance Minister was a little hasty, which caused a misunderstanding.”
We have over 39 tollbooths in this country, yet the tolls collected only amount to 68 million cedis, which goes to the government. Meanwhile, they get 35 million cedis a month from the Tema motorway alone. It’s a good thing it was shut down. How can a government set up a business for people to profit from? It’s good that it’s been shut down. “What we’re going to do today is automate,” he remarked in response to a question from a youth empowerment conference attendee in Koforidua on Friday.

“Automated system will take record of every car that passes through so that the government knows how many cars passed through so that the private operator’s computation is dependent on the number of automobiles registered,” he said.

“I’ll tell you something: Ghanaians are born evil.” They have benefited themselves by having 39 tollbooths and making 68 million cedis.”

Minister of Finance Ken Ofori-Atta stated in November 2021 during the introduction of the 2022 budget statement and economic policy that Ghana’s roads need to be fixed and are being fixed, but that due to the misery of Ghanaians, the government has removed all tolls on public highways and bridges. The action was supposed to go into effect as soon as the Budget was approved.
