Ghana’s coronavirus cases low because Akufo-Addo is decisive – Sammy Awuku

The National Organizer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) Sammy Awuku says coronavirus cases in Ghana would have worsened if Ghana had a President flip-flopping with decisions to contain the pandemic.

According to him, Ghana is blessed to have President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at this crucial time which requires pragmatic decisions to tackle the pandemic head-on.

“Under our circumstances government has done tremendously well in taking decisive decisions, bold decisions. Ghana is blessed to have Akufo-Addo and the NPP at this time. Because of the purposefulness, the courage and determination to confront this issue head-on. If we had any leader who was flip-flopping this time, by now Ghana would have recorded a higher number in terms of this deadly pandemic”

Globally, coronavirus cases have soared to over 1.1million infections with 60,000 deaths. Ghana’s case count has reached 205 confirmed cases with 5 deaths as of April 3, 2020. Ghana recorded first case of Covid-19 on March 13, 2020.

President Akufo-Addo on March 27, 2020 announced a partial lockdown of Accra and Parts of Greater Kumasi for two weeks as an enhanced measure to prevent community spread having closed down all Borders – Land, sea and Air spaces. Government also imposed mandatory 14 days quarantine for returnees in the country. Additionally, the President has established a Covid-19 Fund to help mobilize resources to fight the pandemic.

Sammy Awuku believes these decisions and interventions by the President have mitigated the spread of Coronavirus disease in the country.

“Look at the countries around us, even South Sahara Africa. South Africa jumped from a hundred to over five hundred in less than a week. At least if you look closely at it- government closing it borders both Air, Land and Sea it was a major decision”.

Sammy Awuku said this Saturday when he joined an exercise to disinfest markets in the Eastern Regional capital – Koforidua.

The Eastern region is the 10th region to benefit from the nationwide disinfestation exercise being carried out by government and Zoomlion Ghana Limited. About 200 market centres across the region were expected to be disinfested.

Present at the disinfestation exercise in Koforidua were the Deputy Minister of Local Government also MP for New Juaben North-Nana Adjei Boateng, Director General of the National Disaster Management Organization(NADMO) Eric Nana Agyeman -Prempeh, Regional Director of NADMO-Kwame Appiah Kodua, National Youth Organiser of NPP Henry Nana Boakye, Municipal Chief Executives for New Juaben North and South -Comfort Asante and Isaac Appaw Gyasi respectively.
