A civil society group sympathetic to the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP); Ghana Must Know Forum, has taken a swipe at President, John Dramani Mahama for claiming he has never taken a bribe before in his career as a politician.
According to the group led by Hopeson Adoye, a known loyalist of the presidential candidate of the main opposition NPP, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) led by the President has created, a loot and share system to favour his family members and people close to him.
He said, the government of President Mahama, was saddled with conflict of interest contracts riddled with corruption all over.
Speaking at a hurriedly organized press conference in reaction to the President’s statement made at United Kingdom’s (UK’s)summit on corruption held at the instance of the UK Prime Minister; David Cameron, Mr. Adoye, said the group would continue put forward many of the dirty corrupt deals perpetuated by the President, his appointees and some members of his family.
He explained that, there wasa damning financial scandal planned in a well co-ordinated manner between Presidency, the Ministry of Finance and Bank of Ghana.
“This fraudulence led by the President out of the many, is the bane of the unending collapse of some local banks owned by the government in recent times.
The government of President Mahamahas created devastating effects on the live ordinary Ghanaians,” Mr Adoye said flanged by members of his group.
He noted that, the Ministry of Finance in October last year, struggled to issue a Eurobond of one billion Dollars at an interest of 10.7 percent, when the Bank of Ghana( BoG) had sought to offer 8.5 percent even with a guaranteed 400 million Dollars from the World Bank.
According to him, the proceeds of the bond was to be used for the financing of maturing domestic debts and some amount of itused to improve the infrastructure deficit of the country.
It will shock you to know that the group’s sources at the Ministry of Finance and the BoG has confirmed the transfer of 250 million Dollars out of the 1 billionDollars foreign exchange to United Bank for Africa(UBA), a wholly owned Nigerian bank operating in Ghana.
He said the Minister advanced the money to the bank and borrowed it later from the bank with interest.
The group alleged that the directive to transfer the amount from the BoG account into the account of UBA was given by President Mahama.
The group said going by this, it is attempted to agree with Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings; the wife of the founder of the NDC that “if you borrow your money back from them at a high interest rate, you are either not wise, or you are a thief or both. No wonder their campaign message of vote for us so they don’t jail us, it time to save Ghana from this criminality”
