GFA Presidential race: Asante Kotoko throws support behind George Afriyie

One of the heavyweight teams in Ghana football, Kumasi Asante Kotoko SC has thrown its support behind George Afriyie, one of the GFA presidential hopefuls.

This endorsement from the Kumasi based sporting club comes after Mr. George Afriyie set in motion his manifesto for Ghana football development when elected by voters.

The CEO of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, George Amoako speaking in reaction to the launch of the manifesto told journalists that the manifesto of George Afriyie relatively stands tall among those of the other candidates. According to the CEO, he avers having listened to the manifestos of the other contestants, George Afriyie’s plans and policies as outlined need to be supported by all and sundry.

“We have heard a whole lot about their policies with their manifestos, but George Afriyie’s own stands tall amongst his competitors,” the CEO of Kotoko told journalists.

He, therefore, disclosed that Kotoko as a football club has resolved to vote for the former vice president of the GFA during the erstwhile Kwasi Nyantakyi’s administration.

George Amoako continued “…we don’t endorse a candidate for endorsing sake. I George Amoako being the CEO of Kotoko has(have) been given the mandate to endorse the candidature of George Afriyie.  So, we (Asante Kotoko) have endorsed George Afriyie and that will be same in the elections having been convinced by his policies with his manifesto.”

“The club have(has) given me the mandate to endorse George Afriyie. And for that matter, his vote is with us,” he assured.

The launching of the manifesto which took place in Sunyani over the weekend saw the attendance of many football administrators and fans from the various clubs in the country.

According to the GFA Normalization Committee,  the selection of a president for the newly reformed GFA is slated to take place on October 25, 2019.
