The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for Lawra Constituency, Anthony Abaayifa Karbo has expressed his dislike at the attempt by some people to accuse Nana Akufo-Addo of being behind the mourners who hooted at President John Dramani Mahama.
Some mourners that thronged the funeral of the late Bantamahene, Baffour Asare Owusu Amankwatiah V reportedly hooted at President John Dramani Mahama and his entourage at the funeral grounds.
The mourners who were clad in black and carried the flag of the NPP – started to hoot at the President after the arrival of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo at the funeral grounds.
But a woman by name Esther Nana Agyeman who claims to be an ardent member of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Okay FM’s ‘Ade Akye Abia’ Morning Show has accused the NPP’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako and Nana Akufo-Addo to be behind the action of the mourners against President Mahama.
A furious Anthony Karbo on the same platform warned people to stop tagging Nana Akufo-Addo and any NPP member to be involved in such an act against President Mahama as the NPP cannot urge people or would want to disrespect the President.
“Why do we want to hoot at the President? The President is the President of Ghana and nothing else. But those who hoot at the President and political leaders are based on frustration and disappointment. After the leader has failed to deliver on his promises the only opportunity they can get to hoot at you is on the day of election,” he stated.
He pinpointed that President Mahama is not the only President of Ghana who has received a hooting as the first President of Ghana, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Ex-President Rawlings, Ex-President Kufour and the late President Mills have all suffered similar fate.
Meanwhile, NDC Media Monitors in the Ashanti region are calling for a general condemnation of what they refer to as the “unacceptable, uncultured, disrespectful and awful” behavior of some members of the New Patriotic Party towards the President during the late Bantamahene’s funeral.
A statement released by the serial callers specifically, called on the National Peace Council, Traditional leaders, Christian Council, Islamic leaders, Civil society groups as well as the media to condemn the hooting of the President during his visit.
