Focus on completing your race not the competition – Mensa Otabil

Renowned man of God and founder of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), Pastor Mensa Otabil, has advised Christians to never grow weary of the assignments set before them but do well to see it through to the very end, disregarding the competition set before them.

During the live broadcast of Sunday, May 17th’s virtual church service, he preached; “our assignment in life is not to compete with people but to finish the race set before us.”

The service was broadcast live on the Global Media Alliance Broadcast Company (GMABC) brands, Happy FM, eTV Ghana and across the Y-Triangle.

The man of God asked Christians to endure through thick and thin. “Your best is to finish the race set before you regardless of the obstacles you face. I have to keep running, you have to keep running and we all have to keep running.”

The General Overseer of the ICGC acknowledged that one could get exhausted along the way but should never give up. “Sometimes we get weary because we don’t know whether we are making progress. You may feel there is too much warfare in your life. When it happens, know that God did not bring you this far so you could quit.”

Citing Apostle Paul from the Bible, he mentioned that the Apostle never indicated the position or time he finished his race in 2 Timothy 4:7. He just said, “I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race and I have kept the faith.” Just as Paul overcame all obstacles and concentrated on completing his race, he urged Ghanaians to do same. “It doesn’t matter when you finish your assignment, the most important thing is for you to complete it.”

Applying the concept to the COVID-19 fight, Pastor Mensa Otabil urged Ghanaians to keep on adhering to all preventive measures and directives outlined by the government. He acknowledged that though the wearing of masks may be uncomfortable for most, “we should still wear them. We need to finish this race together.”
