Fire has consumed a residential apartment at Agric-Nzema in the Kwadaso Municipality of the Ashanti Region rendering occupants homeless after burning cash of victims running into several thousands of Ghana cedis.
The fire which was beyond control, started around 4 am on Saturday, January 23, 2020 destroyed properties worth millions of Ghana cedis.
This brings to six the number of fire outbreaks that have been recorded within Kumasi since January 2021 raising suspicion among residents if these incidents are not linked to arson.
It took firefighters several hours to douse the inferno in the latest incident though no casualties were recorded.
The victims speaking in an interview with Pure Fm’s Osei Kwadwo said their future hangs in balance as their properties and money have all been destroyed by the fire.
The assembly member for Agric-Nzima electoral area Wilson Sackey disclosed that they suspect the fire was caused by an electrical fault.
“Though firefighters have are yet to disclose the cause of the fire, the victims told me they believe it was caused by an electrical fault”, he revealed.
Mr. Wilson Sackey appealed to Kwadaso Municipal Assembly, government, NGOs and stakeholders to provide Agric-Nzema with a fire station to help save properties in times when there are fire outbreaks.
The Ashanti Regional Command of Ghana National Fire Service disclosed to this portal that investigations have commenced into the incident to establish the actual cause of the fire.
