Former president Mahama has joined the league of world leaders who have reacted to the unexpected resignation by Zimbabwe’s Robert Mugabe as president.
A letter from Mr Mugabe read out by the speaker of Zimbabwe’s parliament said the decision was voluntary and he had made it to allow a smooth transfer of power.
Robert Mugabe’s 37 year-reign which came to an end after his resignation sparked jubilations in the nation’s streets.
Despite wishing the ‘freed’ country a turnaround for democracy and prosperity, Mahama who did not seem happy about the sudden turn of events wrote on Social Media that it was a “sad ending for a liberation hero.”
Former President Mahama’s post on Twitter read: “A sad ending for a liberation hero, a patriot and a great Pan Africanist. I pray the dramatic events of November serve as a reboot for democracy and prosperity in #Zim. History will remember Comrade Mugabe kindly.”
