Another donation was made to Ghana’s 1965 Cup of Nations winning team on Tuesday after they received a whooping amount of GHC 51,000 ($13,000) from Electronic Appliance Company Prolux Ghana Limited.
The donation which was made at the premises of Prolux in Accra saw some members of the 1965 Group namely: Rev. Osei Kofi, Rev. Kofi Pare, John Naawu Bortey, Wilberforce Nfum and Dodoo Ankrah.
The donation was a fulfillment of a pledge made by the firm during a fundraising dinner in December last year organized by the DESPITE Group of companies to support the ex-National team players who have been neglected by the government despite toiling to win the Cup of Nations in 1963.
An initial cash donation of GHC11, 000 was made by the General Manager of Prolux, Mr. Luke Dickson who also gave a cheque which will enable the ex-footballers receive an amount of GHC5,000 at the end of every month.
Rev Osei Kofi, a member of the 1965 Cup of Nations winning team who received the money on behalf of the team expressed appreciation and again commended the Despite Group of Companies for their thoughtful idea to help the ex-footballers.
He also went on to urge the government to honor other past heroes who have been neglected.
Prolux Ghana played a major role in the Golden Jubilee celebration of the 1965 Cup of Nations winning team by emerging as the highest contributors during the fundraising dinner in Accra.
They thus joins the likes of Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan, NPP Presidential aspirant Nana Akufo- Addo, MD of Kofata motors “Young Kofata”, Dr. Osei Kwame Despite of the DESPITE Group of Companies as well as Founder of Glorious Waves Church International prophet Emmanuel Badu Kobi who have all fulfilled their promises to the former Black Stars’ players.
The company during the presentation also gave out some of their newly introduced non-alcoholic beverage drink, Max-Malt to the ex-National stars.
The firm deals in home electrical appliances such as refrigerators, gas cookers, television sets etc.
Last year marked exactly 50 years when Ghana won its second Cup of Nations trophy in Tunisia.
