Even lotto magicians don’t do this – Franklin Cudjoe critiques alarming coronavirus figures

Founding President of policy think tank, Imani Africa, Franklin Cudjoe has bemoaned the handling of communications regarding the Coronavirus figures in the country, insisting that Ghanaians must not allow politicians to get away with presenting questionable figures on this pandemic as they do with economic figures.

In a post on social media, Mr Cudjoe wondered why handlers of the COVID-19 figures had claimed that Ghana had reached its peak of infection while the figures keeps going up.

“Politicians can get away with contradictory economic figures and frankly, politics prevents us to even believing our own photocopies.

“However, let us not allow the politicians to take this destructive attitude to a serious matter like covid-19. And so who actually forced the covid comms team to say we had peaked? Even lotto magicians don’t throw numbers out like that?” He asked.

Government had announced that the country had reached its peak of infections but hundreds of infections are still being recorded creating doubts about the claim.

As of Sunday May 10, 2020, the country recorded a total of 4,700 cases with 22 deaths while the recovery rate remains at 323.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has however urged Ghanaians to resort to eating local meals in order to boost their immune system to fight the virus.

“We have to improve our hygiene, our fitness, and exercise, our eating, generally, our style of living, which will boost our immunity to disease and the virus. For instance, we are told that the key vitamins that fortify our immune system are vitamins A, B6, C, and E. Fortunately for us, in Ghana, all of these can be found in many of our foods, such as oranges, kontomire, millet, cashew nuts, crabs, plantain, okro, dawadawa, brown rice and mushrooms. Following a good diet, patronising our healthy foods, exercising regularly, ensuring our personal hygiene, and improving our lifestyle habits should become part and parcel of our daily routines, which will help boost our immune systems, and help us in the fight against the pandemic.” He urged.
