ENHANCE TRADE AND CULTURAL COOPERATION WITH BELT ROAD INITIATIVE – FIRST LADY

The First Lady, Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo has called on Ghanaian and Chinese artists to forge trade and cultural exchanges through the belt road initiative.

This was at the opening of the 2019 Art Exhibition of Silk Road Language of Art in Accra.

“In a globalized world, each country should treasure its cultural inheritance, as well as learn from the culture and wisdom of others.” She said.

According to the First Lady, the ancient Silk Road embodies the spirit of peace, cooperation, openness, inclusiveness, mutual learning and mutual benefit.

These, she explained are values that are equally shared in Ghana.

“Ghana joined the Belt and Road Initiative, when President Akufo-Addo visited China last year. We are glad to see the early results of that cooperation, especially in the area of infrastructure and the people-to-people exchanges.” She noted.

Touching on Africa ’s cultural significance, she said “the history of arts in Ghana can be traced back to thousands of years ago around the 10th Century AD, where major ethnic groups of migrating Africans created splendid artistic works of long-standing historical significance.”

Whilst commending China’s 5000 year cultural history, the First Lady touched on Ghana’s diverse and rich culture adding “that the creativity of arts is rooted in our genes.”

She hoped that with increased connectivity, the belt road initiative will help enhance trade and cultural ties between Ghana and China.
