Electricity Levy to be increased despite power fluctuations which starts May

The Electricity Company of Ghana(ECG) had announced an increment in the power supply Levy. This they say is to assist in certain needed activities for the provision of sufficient power to all Ghanaians.

Meanwhile the African Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP) had raised a concern relative to the new development by the ECG in increasing its tariffs. The ACEP believe that the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) should have a reason for its decision and that is what Ghanaians should know.

Speaking on behalf of the African Centre for Energy Policy(ACEP), Mr. Benjamin Boakye, the Executive Director, said that the they only want to be certain that the increment in the Levy would help curb the deficit in mopped up in the sector.

Meanwhile the Energy Minister had stated earlier that the country would have to brace itself for more power outages in May 2021. So some Ghanaians have expressed their anxiety over the tariff increment despite its associated power outages.

That notwithstanding, the ACEP had said to engage further to see how much the ECG need and whether those demands are justified and whether improving their own systems could be the solution rather than an increment in the levies.

This increment in tariffs and a subsequent “dumsor” introduction does it really tarry? What is the secret behind the power outages? Is this due to the free electricity fee to get was introduced by Nana Akufo-Addo? Has there been any money looting? This are some questions some Ghanaians are curious for answers to?

But in the meantime, the Ghana Grid Company(GRIDCo) says the nationwide intermittent power outages are expected to be over in September. This was made know by the Chief Executive Officer of GRIDCo, Mr. Jonathan Amoako- Baah in a recent visit to the Ashanti Region.
