Earthquake strikes Italy as they are still combating coronavirus

The 4.3 magnitude quake struck the region of Emilia-Romagna – around 1km away from Coli – which has been one of the worst-affected areas of the Covid-19 outbreak in the country.

According to the EMSC, the quake hit about 46 km north east of the city of Genoa, where witnesses said they felt shaking. So far, there have been no reports of injuries or severe damage.

It was recorded at 11.42am local time and light tremors were felt in Milan, in the neighbouring Lombardy region, and as far as bordering Switzerland

Another from the same town reported their table swaying and their chandelier moving. ‘I am in a building on the sixth floor and I felt a wave of about five seconds,’ said another in Genoa.

Many Italians, who are still in lockdown, have taken to social media calling 2020 the worst year ever due to its recent bad luck.

One Italian social media user Tweeted: ‘But who did we p*** off so much that we deserved all these tragedies Earthquake

Another joked: ‘At what time does the world end?’ Emilia-Romagna and Lombardy have been the two regions most affected by the pandemic, which has claimed the lives of more than 21,000 in the country.

Of those, 11,400 were in the region of Lombardy and 2,800 in Emilia-Romagna. A total of 165,155 have tested positive in Italy
