Sammy Gyamfi, the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) National Communications Officer, says the current government’s decision to impose a savings tax beyond his mind.
He described the Electronic Transfer Levy, often known as the e-levy, as esoteric in Ghana’s taxation framework, calling it “stupid.”
“We do not tax savings in Ghana under our tax regime,” he said on TV3’s New Day on Tuesday, February 1, noting the Value Added Tax (VAT) and other taxes as examples of taxation on expenditure.
As a result, he came to the following conclusion: “E-levy is not a tax.” It’s robbery.”
