E-Levy Is A Pick-Pocketing Tactic By NPP – NDC MP

Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe Ghansah, a member of the opposition National Democratic Congress who represents Ada in Parliament, has described the government’s proposed 1.5 percent fee on electronic transactions as a theft technique by the ruling New Patriotic Party.

Due to opposition from the NDC-minority side of the house, the Electronic Transactions Levy (E-Levy), which is currently before the Ghanaian parliament, has been delayed in its passage.

With an estimated yearly revenue of GHC6 billion, the government has designated the E-Levy as critical in producing cash for the country’s operations.

However, speaking on Kwame Nkrumah Tikese’s morning show on Okay FM, the MP for Ada claimed that the government is hell-bent on putting Ghanaians through suffering in order to pass the E-Levy.

She claims that the government has better options for administering the country but prefers to use pickpocketing tactics.

“They’re bringing the E-Levy to kill us.” Drivers should be aware that when it comes time to renew their driver’s license, they will be able to pay with mobile money. Some individuals say they will cease using mobile money, but it will be a futile move because you will renew your driver’s license with mobile money, pay your taxes with mobile money, renew your paperwork at the DVLA with mobile money, and buy insurance with mobile money. Every payment to the government will now be made with mobile money rather than cash.

“By the time you realize it, your already-taxed salary has been subjected to E-Levy.” E-Levy will be charged on your driver’s license, auto insurance, and health insurance renewal. “This is pickpocketing; the NPP is attempting internal producing pickpocketing,” she explained.

“Why can’t they go to the IMF, why are they bent on disturbing us?” Comfort Doeyoe replied when asked why the government is considering going to the International Monetary Fund as an alternative. They will squander the revenues from the E-Levy if it passes. Our demands for accountability on the COVID-19 funding have been ignored. Whenever there is a plea for accountability, the administration refuses to listen.”
