E-Levy: Cocoa Farmers Kick Against MoMo Payment

Over Five hundred thousand (500,000) Cocoa farmers under Ghana National Cocoa Farmers Association (GNACOFA) have shared their thoughts concerning receiving their payments when they sell their Cocoa beans through mobile money transfer.

According to the farmers, that is a cheat and are calling for the withdrawal of such plans since they are not ready to bear the extra cost the implementation of the e-levy will bring should it e approved by Parliament.

Speaking with the media during their 2022 1ST Quarter Society’s Meeting at Kumasi Cultural Center, they lamented that in the past, payments were always done through physical cash and wondered why the sudden change.

They stressed that even though they pay taxes, they still find it difficult to get subsidised fertilizers and farm inputs to help them in their activities.

They are, therefore, speaking against any means to change the mode of payment and have sent caution to COCOCBOD management to intervene in the issue.
