Tarkwa drivers are fed up over the continuous increase in fuel prices in the country as they decide to stage a protest against the situation.
Drivers who drive from Tarkwa to Takoradi, Cape-Coast, Accra, Kumasi and other parts of the country are staging a protest with effect from Monday, May 24, against the increase in fuel prices leaving many passengers stranded at lorry stations.
However, these drivers are complaining over the fact that, their lorry fares has not been increased to match the ever increasing fuel prices making them work for nothing in return. They also indicated that, since the fuel prices was increased in May, 2021, they expected the Transport Union to reveal new lorry fares but nothing has been revealed to them even after several complaints.
According to Skyy Power Fm’s Nana Yaw Kumi, passengers have been stranded at the Tarkwa lorry stations in Takoradi and Tarkwa since 4:00 am, Monday, May 24, due to the protest by these drivers.
A driver said, “If they increase the fare for us today, we will start work as soon as possible, things are hard for us as fuel prices keep increasing without our lorry fares increasing. Even if it is four days that we will protest till they increase the fares, we will do that. We have made several complaints but nothing has been done so we are taking action.”
