If wishes were horses, beggars would ride. Imagine what will happen when Ghana assembles this squad for the 2022 world cup? Probably, that may be the same question a lot of Ghanaians are asking. Is it possible to have them? Yes! Is it difficult to have all of them? Yes! Let’s take a brief look at them individually:
He is a German-born Ghanaian defender who plays for Bundesliga side Hamburger SV. The 23-year old giant is normally described as ‘the giant’ and has similar characteristics of some players like Jerome Boateng who snubbed Ghana for Germany. When Stephan is able to join the team, his partnership at the defence will be incredible.
The Southampton defender has been on Ghana’s radar for some time now. For reasons that are yet to be fully explained, the sensational defender has distanced himself from the Black Stars and seems not to be bothered. If he will be ready for the world cup, he will add up to the likes of Alexander Djiku and Amartey who have constantly shown their commitment to the team.
Tariq has reportedly switched nationality and may wear the national jersey for the senior national soccer teams, the Black Stars in September. The Brighton and Hove Albion defender has shown willingness by even watching Ghana play Madagascar in Cape Coast during the AFCON qualifiers. His presence in the team will go a long way to help the right-back position.
The Bristol City forward has already played for Ghana in the Afcon qualifiers. Semenyo has the energy and skill to take on defenders. He missed out on the second match because he picked a knock in the Ghana-Madagascar game. He is likely to make Coach Otto Addo’s squad for the world cup.
Inaki and his brother, Nico are in the country at the moment. Rumours are that he is here for discussions on his nationality switch. While these may be unconfirmed reports, it is likely Inaki Williams will be happy to play for Ghana. Inaki is a strong striker and has good footwork. His strength and ability in attack is commendable and playing for Ghana will be a huge asset.
The Arsenal star has indicated a possible chance to play for Ghana. Nketiah was wonderful in the just ended season for the ‘gunners’ and got some good playing, especially getting to the end of the season. He is an excellent player by all standards and almost every team will like him to be on the squad.
The Chelsea star has been on the bench for some time due to injury. He visited the country and went to the presidency to meet the president of the republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo sometime last year. The young winger will provide a lot of options for the coach when he is able to join the team.
