Disabled Venture Into Animal Rearing

NINE PEOPLE With Disabilities (PWD) in the Afigya Kwabre North District, of the Ashanti Region, have been presented with sheep and goats for rearing, to make profit and better their lives in the process.

This was when the Afigya Kwabre North District Assembly presented capital assets through the Disability Common Fund to 72 people with disabilities, to give them financial cushion to help improve their living standards.

Aside the nine people in the district that are now venturing into animal rearing, some of the PWDs also received free sewing machines, refrigerators and other start-up tools to start a new trade and become self-reliant, financially.

During the presentation ceremony, some of the PWDs in the district also received cheques to pay their school fees and climb higher the academic ladder; others also took cash to pay for their medical bills.

The District Chief Executive of the Afigya Kwabre North, Mr. Kwasi Karikari Achamfour, explained that the timely donation formed part of government’s grand agenda and commitment to support the PWDs in the country.

According to him, the country’s developmental processes would be accelerated if everyone is given the chance to contribute his/her quota, hence the government’s resolve to make PWDs economically active at all times.

Mr. Achamfour said the Disability Fund Management Committee thoroughly vetted the number of applicants and 72 were finally selected to benefit from the fund, adding that the activities of the beneficiaries would be monitored.

Mrs. Paulina Adantey, the acting President of the Disability Federation in Afigya Kwabre North District, on behalf of the beneficiaries, commended government for having the welfare of the PWDs at heart, urging the beneficiaries to work hard.
