CPP Will Pull A Major Surprise In This Year’s Nov. 7 Elections

Kwesi-Pratt

A founding member of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) has predicted the party would pull what he describes as “the biggest surprise” in the 2016 general elections.

Kwesi Pratt Jnr, commenting on the just ended delegates’ conference of the CPP, said the CPP under the leadership of Ivor Kobina Greenstreet would cause a major upset in the 2016 elections.

“I made a prediction yesterday and I would dare repeat it today too and that is that I have full confidence in the leadership of Ivor Greenstreet…the CPP would pull the biggest surprise in the 2016 elections…,” he predicted on Accra-based Peace FM on Tuesday.

Mr Greenstreet, a former general secretary of the party, beat Ms Nkrumah with 1,288 votes representing 64.2% as against the former Jomoro MP’s total of 579, representing about 28.9%.

Two other candidates: Joseph Agyapong picked up 83 votes, representing 4.1%; and Bright Akwetey managed 42, which makes up 2.1%; with 14 votes, representing 0.7% being rejected ballots.

And the results, Kwesi Pratt – who did not cast a ballot at the party’s polls – said is a true reflection of the desire of the CPP and its members to cause a change in the country’s politics.

Touting the credentials of Ivor Greenstreet, the Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper said that the former General Secretary of the party being a grassroot person would champion the campaign of the party to the hinterlands.

“When people were in Accra here campaigning on radio, he was in Wa, Bolgatanga, Tumu and others all galvanizing for votes…Ivor is known to be a grassroot person and I have every confidence that the CPP would cause a major upset in the polls…,” he said.

He however failed to affirm claims that Ivor Greenstreet and the CPP would form Ghana’s next government.

“We (CPP0 have always had under 1% of valid votes cast in the country’s general elections, if we make up to even 6%, we have made a mark and I know we would cause that upset and people must watch out for us…,” Kwesi Pratt said further.

According to him, the fact that delegates of the party overlooked the physical challenges of Ivor and voted for him based on his credentials tells of how welcoming the CPP is as a party.

“We do not discriminate…in the CPP, we believe everyone has a role to play and we welcome all but for us to make the mark, we need Samia, Prof Akosa, Prof Delle and everyone on board and the CPP would pull through this surprise, I can predict…,” he said.
