CPP promises “Free University Education” when voted into office in 2020

The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has disclosed that the party will implement Free University Education to complement the Free SHS policy when voted into office in 2020.

The party maintains that the Free SHS policy implemented by President Akufo-Addo and the NPP administration will not be enough unless it is expanded to include free university education in all public universities in the country.

Speaking at the Bono Regional Delegates’ Congress of the CPP in Sunyani on Wednesday, the Acting General Secretary of the party, James Kwabena Bomfeh admitted that although the policy is a very ambitious one, the party has a very feasible masterplan to implement such a flagship initiative.

“When voted into office, we will make sure the current free SHS is not only limited to the various public senior high school but will be transformed to free compulsory basic education. We will ensure education is made free from the basic level to the university level. Although it is very ambitious, I am pretty sure the CPP can implement it,” the acting General Secretary of CPP averred.

Explaining how such a challenging programme can be implemented, Kabila, as he is affectionately referred to, indicated that the natural resources potential should be able to fund such a flagship initiative.

He added that expanding the revenue generation capacity of the economy, in addition to the endowed natural resource base of the country, can provide more than enough revenue to fund education from the basic level through to the tertiary.

James Bomfeh continued that in order to sustain the policy there is the need to ensure a constant flow of funds to enable the smooth running of the programme.

The Acting-General Secretary noted that to achieve this, the next CPP government will run a lean government devoid of wastages. In addition, the government will clamp down on corruption and seal all the loopholes in Ghana’s revenue generation structure.

“God has endowed us with all the needed natural resources. All we need to do is to stop corruption, expand our revenue generation and prudently manage our economy and finances. I believe when we get all of these on the right path, the rest will be easily achieved,” he explained

He continued that, “the CPP government will run an economy known as the circular economy. Nothing will go waste. Everything that happens within our economic system will be recycled.”

Nine executives were elected at the Regional Delegates Congress to run the affairs of the CPP in the Bono Region.
