COVID-19: University Entrance Exams To Replace WASSCE If Disease Persists – Education Minister Hints

The Minister for Education who doubles as the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh has hinted that if deadly Coronavirus persists, the government intends to engage stakeholders in the University Community on how best final year Senior High School (SHS) students can be admitted into various programmes

The West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) has been suspended by West African Examinations Council (WAEC) due to the rise in numbers in the deadly Coronavirus across the sub-region.

The exams will be suspended until the world is able to fight and arrest the deadly virus and this may affect the academic calendar of WAEC and other educational institutions in the country.

He indicated that WASSCE was introduced by human beings and that if it is not written, the country will not collapse.

“We brought WASSCE, we didn’t come to meet WASSCE in this world so if there’s a new system that can help us we need to embrace it because we are in challenging times. So I’ve told the NCTE to call on the University Dons including Vice-Chancellors and Registrars so that theycan help show us how they will admit students in case we are unable to write the WASSCE. This won’t destroy Ghana if we don’t write exams the country won’t collapse,”
