COVID-19: Mensa Otabil, Others Exploiting Christians- Odike

The Founder and leader of the United Progressive Party (UPP), Mr. Akwasi Addai Odike has lashed out the head pastor of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), Pastor Mensa Otabil and others for resorting to use of technology and to hold church services online following government’s decision to ban public gatherings in a bid to curb the spread of the global pandemic virus.

“I am disappointed in charitable organizations such as churches that are supposed to show love to help government find solutions to pandemic,  are launching online applications to take monies from their church members”, he stated.

According to politician cum businessman, this is time for individuals, philanthropists and the Churches in Ghana to show support to the government in fighting the COVID-19 killing thousands across the globe instead of holding church services and soliciting for collections online.

“The government should deal with Mensa Otabil and others taking the opportunity to exploit people instead of supporting the government’s crusade”, Mr. Akwasi Addai Odike spoke on Kumasi-based Nhyira FM during panel discussion monitored by Ghanawish.com

“I have decided in the interest of public safety and the protection of our population to review the public gathering advisories earlier announced as follows: Firstly, all public gatherings including conferences, workshops, funerals, festivals, political rallies, sporting events and religious activities, such as services in churches and mosques, have been suspended for the next four (4) weeks,” the President said.

He said private burials are allowed but should just be for a few people.

“Private burials are permitted, but with limited numbers, not exceeding twenty-five (25) in attendance.”
