COURT ACTION AGAINST GHANA HIGHWAYS AUTHORITY…SOFOLINE CHAIRMAN DESCIDES

Officials of Ghana Highways Authority will soon be engaged in a legal battle with the Chairman for Sofoline Drivers Union Association Mr. Albert K. Bomah.

According to the latter, the former have not lived up to the task as in ensuring that the various highways are well positioned to reduce the rate of accident occurrence.

Mr. Albert Bomah disclosed to GHANA BULLETIN ONLINE that he is determined to sue officials over any road accident which was caused by the absence of road signs and road markings.

He denfended that what led to a number of recorded accidents has nothing to do with the fault of drivers but the negligence of officials towards ensuring that all necessary road sign are well errected to alert drivers on what to do.

Recent checks conducted by him on Kumasi-Bibiani highway, revealed a number of broken down and faded road signs plus the absence of road markings.

These per his checks were prevalent in areas including Nkawie, Afari, Sepaase, Krakyekrom (of Bibiani) .

Other locations are Anyinasu, Bekwai and Abesewa, disclosing that ” most of these sign posts have been taken over by bush, others have faded beyond visibility and most of them have been dismounted”.

*ASHANTI REGIONAL HIGHWAYS DIRECTOR FINGERED*

” I took pictures of all damaged road signs that I sighted, sent copies to the Ashanti Regional Director for Ghana Highways Authority via WhatsApp and reported the matter to him. For close to two weeks now, the Director has not replied my message let alone to visit the areas to correct the situation” he exposed.

*REFUTES ACCUSATIONS AGAINST DRIVERS*

Chairman Boamah disclosed that it is a total fallacy, accusation raised against drivers that they (drivers) are the cause of accidents.

He rebutted that officials of Ghana Highways Authority, Urban Roads and Police should be held responsible instead.

He cited instances where police personnel will mount a check point without any road sign to alert drivers of a police check point ahead of them. This he underlined has led to several accidents. “In situations like this, the IGP should be sued because his men failed to errect a road sign to inform drivers of their operations” he challenged.
