CORONAVIRUS: Ghana Records 9th case!

The number of confirmed cases of Coronavirus (COVID-19) in Ghana has increased to 9 Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has confirmed.

“Unfortunately we have confirmed two more cases overnight. Ghana’s case count is now at 9. Health services are still managing all suspected and confirmed cases well,” he said in a tweet.

Ghana announced its first two cases of COVID-19 on 12 March 2020.

The confirmed cases of the Coronavirus increased to six on Saturday, March 14, 2020 then seven on 17 March.

Government has as a result placed a ban on all social gatherings including festivals, church and mosque services, funerals, conferences and others to prevent the spread of the disease.

The outbreak was first identified in Wuhan, Hubei, China, in December 2019 and recognised as a pandemic by the World Health Organisation (WHO) on 11 March 2020.

As of Wednesday, 18 March 2020, more than 219,000 cases of COVID-19 had been reported in over 150 countries and territories, resulting in more than 8,900 deaths and 85,000 recoveries.

Regions affected by major outbreaks include mainland China, Europe, Iran, South Korea and the United States.

On 13 March, the WHO announced that Europe had become the new epicentre of the pandemic.

The virus is primarily spread between people in a manner similar to influenza, via respiratory droplets from coughing and sneezing.
