Mortuary Workers Association of Ghana (MOWAG) branch in Ashanti Region have cautioned bereaved families to come for their dead bodies today September 30, 2020 or postpone their funeral and burial arrangements.
The Mortuary Workers Association of Ghana (MOWAG) has announced all its members are laying down their tools effective Thursday, October 1st.
They complain the Ministry of Health has failed to resolve long-standing concerns of conditions of service and the unhealthy working environments endured by their members.
The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Mortuary Workers Association of Ghana, Ebenezer Asirifi in an interview with Pure FM’s Osei Kwadwo said bereaved families will not have access to their dead if the workers begin strike action tomorrow October 1, 2020.
According to Ebenezer Asirifi, government has taken the stress of Mortuary workers for granted and has failed to improve their condition of services.
“Despite all the risk, government has failed to address our grievances. Our work is very dangerous and health hazard but we have poor condition of services”, Ebenezer Asirifi explained.
He added that “When you visit some mortuaries in Ghana, the facility lacks even equipment for the workers. Government has failed to provide us equipment including gloves”.
Mr. Asirifi disclosed some bereaved families have come for the dead bodies following the pending strike of the Association.
