Chief Turned Armed Robber Arrested With Pump-Action Gun [Photo]

The Sandema District Police Command in the Upper East Region has detained suspect Agriwen Owen with a pump-action gun, seven (7) AAA live cartridges, one (1) AAA empty cartridge, a Jackknife, one (1) handcuff, and a Talisman near Azim-zim on the Sandema-Chuchuluga route.

During their duty tour in Sandema on Monday, October 5, 2021, the Police Night Patrol team discovered the suspect in command of a motorcycle about 2:30 a.m. and signaled him to stop, but he ignored the police warning.

He was apprehended following a high-speed chase, and a search of him uncovered the above hidden in a large bag he was carrying.

A check of his room in the presence of his niece uncovered an ash Police Torchlight, one empty cartridge, a police reflector, and a piece of police material with the inscription Ghana, according to a police statement.

On the same day, at about 2:50 a.m., a victim of attempted robbery, who requested anonymity, came to the Sandema Police Station and reported that the suspect attacked him in his home with a pump-action gun at about 2:00 a.m. in an attempt to rob him.

According to information available to police, the suspect, Agriwen Owen, a Balansa chief, was expelled from the Ghana Armed Forces for misconduct, then recruited by NADMO, only to be sacked again for alleged misbehavior.

The police in the Upper East Region tell the public that they are prepared to deal with any criminal activity in the region, including violent crimes like as robbery, murder, and cross-border crimes.
