Liverpool are set to learn their opponents in the Champions League last eight as the draw for the quarter-finals takes place today.

Jurgen Klopp’s side can draw Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea, Manchester City, Porto, PSG or Real Madrid at this stage.

There are no seedings or country protection in operation at this point of the Champions League.

The path to the semi-finals will also be decided this morning in the draw, which takes place in Nyon, Switzerland. Fxtures and precise dates will be set out in due course.

Champions League highlights

UEFA are currently showing the highlights of Liverpool’s season in the Champions League so far.

While their Premier League campaign has been somewhat hit and miss since Christmas, the Reds have been pretty flawless in Europe so far this season.

The opening credits have rolled and the Champions League draw show has started.

However, one suspects it may be a while until we the draw actually starts.

Last-16 results

Defending championsBayern Munich claimed a 6-2 aggregate win over Lazio, while last season’s other finalists Paris Saint-Germain beat Barcelona 5-2 over two legs.

Manchester City overcame Borussia Monchengladbach 4-0, while Liverpool also beat RB Leipzig aside 4-0 on aggregate.

Real Madrid advanced past Atalanta 3-0 on aggregate, but Atletico Madrid were beaten by Chelsea by the same scorline.

While Borussia Dortmund beat Sevilla 5-4 over two-legs, while Porto edged out Juventus on away goals after a 4-4 draw.

How the draw will work

For the quarter-finals draw, each side will be drawn out individually, with the side drawn first classed as the home side in the tie.

Each tie will then be numbered 1-4 for the semi-final draw that will also take place, along with an additional draw to determine the designated “home” side for the May 29 final in Istanbul, Turkey.

Fans ‘could be at ‘ Champions League final

The Champions League final takes place in May at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul.

And according to recent reports, some fans may be able to attend.

A recent Daily Mail report said:

Fans are expected to be allowed to attend the final of the UEFA Champions League due to be held in Istanbul in May, according to reports.

UEFA is believed to be planning for the return of supporters, who have been largely excluded from attending matches in the competition since March 2020, for the showpiece final at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium on May 29.

Sources at football’s European governing body have told ESPN that despite disruption caused by the coronavirus pandemic in this season’s Champions League, there is growing confidence fans will be present at the final in Turkey.
