Central Region Will Decide Who Leads NPP In 2024 – NPP Chairperson

The Cape Coast South Chairperson for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has predicted that the Central Region will decide who becomes the flagbearer for the 2024 elections.

Madam Caroline Ewusi said just as the Region has been the decider for who becomes the president of Ghana over the years, it will again be the decider for who becomes the flagbearer of the NPP.

The chairperson gave the predictions in an interview with Onua FM ahead of the Super Delegates Congress scheduled for Saturday, August 26.

“Anytime the NPP is in power, we face a worldwide challenge, and this time, it was a massive challenge, that is the COVID-19, so we urged them [flagbearer aspirants] to be decorum in their utterances. There should be unity after the elections to elect our flagbearer. Whoever the party chooses, the rest must follow and support him because I know that Central will be a decider just like the general election. We shall decide in the interest of the party,” Madam Ewusi explained.

She added: “To the delegates, no matter the candidature, let us focus on the achievement of the NPP work to be able to break the 8.”
Cape Coast South orphan constituency

Madam Ewusi said, “we have been an orphan constituency ever since Cape Coast was divided into two [North and South], and we are bent on wrestling the seat from the non-performing National Democratic Congress (NDC)”.

“Come what may, we shall take the seat in 2024 because voting is about development. We don’t use voting for family planning, so we will vote for who will bring development. We will vote for who will give us a future.”

The Chairperson noted that ever since the NDC took the seat, occupied by George Kweku Ricketts-Hagan, development has been stalled.

“Even since Ricketts-Hagan came, Cape Coast South has been stagnant. All the youths that were with Rickets are now Verandah Boys. He has not been able to help them. That is why we say our vote will not be for family planning.”

Madam Ewusi assured that “we [NPP] shall change the destiny of Cape Coast South, and that will mean that whoever emerges as the candidate after the parliamentary primaries, we shall vote for him”.

“For 12 years of his administration [NDC MP], we have not seen anything, and now he says his government is not in power. Even when his government was in power, he would not have done anything. Ask him what he did when his government was in power.”

Madam Ewusi revealed that “for the first time in the history of Cape Coast South, we had two ministers in the same ministry from this very constituency. When Dr. Ekow Spio Grabrah was the Minister for Trade and Industry, Ricketts-Hagan was his deputy, but they could not even build a sachet water factory in the constituency”.
Parliamentary primaries

The chairperson advised three aspirants who want to lead the constituency in the 2024 election to avoid insults in their campaigns.

“The aspirants should campaign on an issue-based basis. They should preach what you can do and follow the procedures in the party.”

She warned that “whoever goes contrary to the procedures in the party will face the consequences”.

“The party will not forgive any of them. The party will deal with any aspirant who flouts the procedures, not me as the chairperson.”
