The National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer for the 2020 elections, John Dramani Mahama, has settled on former Finance Minister Prof. Kwesi Botchwey as his running mate, our sources at the NDC secretariat have hinted.
The former president will name Prof.Botchwey as his vice presidential candidate in January, 2020.
Prof. Botchwey served as Ghana’s Finance Minister from 1982 – in the PNDC era – to 1995.
He graduated from the University of Ghana after receiving his secondary education at Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School.
He also attended Yale Law School as well as University of Michigan, where he received his doctorate degree.
He served as an advisor to the World Bank in 1997. He has several publications to his credit.
He was a flagbearer aspirant of the NDC during the 2002 flagbearer race which was won by Prof. Atta-Mills.
He chaired NDC’s special committee that reviewed the circumstances that led to the party’s loss in the 2016 elections.
The report of his committee has guided the opposition party’s quest to return to power.
