BREAKING NEWS: A Plus arrested by the CID

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has arrested musician Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus.

The self-styled anti-corruption campaigner is being held for allegedly using a fake Facebook account to publish libelous stories against the Executive Chairman of State Enterprise Commission (SEC), Mr. Stephen Asamoah Boateng, otherwise known as Asabee.

A reliable source available to this portal indicates the maverick supporter of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), was invited by the CID since last week and was expected to show up at 1pm today June 18, 2019 but failed to comply with the directives and playing hide and seek with the police.

We are told A Plus, later turned up around 5:30pm and has since been detained at the CID headquarters.

A Plus is likely to spend the night at the CID headquarters.

It would be recalled that Mr. Asamoah Boateng through his lawyers demanded an unqualified apology from the musician following the alleged “malicious and unsubstantiated” comments made against him following the government appointee’s decision to claim a parcel of land he says he has no title to.

But A Plus insisted he will not apologize daring Asabee to drag him to court.

Defamatory Suit

Asabee after A Plus’ refusal to succumb to his demands went ahead to the Accra High Court slashing the latter with a defamatory suit.

Mr. Asamoah Boateng herein as contained in the suit is praying the court for the following actions against A Plus:

i. General damages including aggravated and exemplary damages for defamation contained in the publication on the Defendant’s Facebook page from 2nd April 2019 to 24th May 2019.

ii. Perpetual injunction restraining the Defendant whether by himself, his servants, agents or assigns from repeating similar or other libelous words against Plaintiff.

iii. A declaration that the words or statements internally made, uttered and published by the Defendant and contained in paragraphs 14 and 15 herein are defamatory of his character.

iv. An order of the Court directed at the Defendant to publish on three conservative occasions, on the same platform he published the defamatory words, an unqualified retraction, and an apology, with the same prominence as given to the issuance of the defamatory words. v. Costs including legal fees, and;

vi. Any other orders(s) as this honourable Court may deem fit.
