Bossman Asare causing more harm as EC spokesperson – Franklin Cudjoe

President of Imani Africa, Franklin Cudjoe wants the Electoral Commission’s (EC) Deputy Chairperson, Dr. Eric Bossman Asare barred from being the commission’s official mouthpiece.

This he said is because Dr. Bossman Asare’s comments on recent election-related issues have had dire consequences on the image of the Commission.

“The other thing I worry about is the spokesperson of the EC. Where are they? Because the Deputy EC who speaks now makes a lot of elementary mistakes. Sadly, he is not speaking properly. I am sorry to say. Nothing put in the public and press evokes any confidence in the EC. I am worried a lot. I expect their communicators to be handling these issues.

Dr. Bossman Asare who, is the Deputy EC Chair in charge of Corporate Services, has since his assumption of office been speaking for the EC.

This is despite the existence of Communication team at the Commission.

EC has said that its Communication Director, Mr. Eric Dzakpasu has now been appointed a Deputy Director, but Mr. Cudjoe doubts the claim.

“These communicators have some history of been at the EC so that they can deflect these recurring problems with our elections. Because anytime the man speaks it appears he is not on top of the issues. This thing has a way of dampening the body cooperate of the EC. Dzapkatsu was doing a good job, what do you send him to the Volta region for if you want to kick him out? Our politics is too petty.”

Already, Dr. Bossman recently angered some officials of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

EC hints of shakeup; Dzakpasu, others to be reassigned

The party has said, some recent comments from the Deputy EC on election matters were inimical to the peace and stability of the country.

Meanwhile, the EC has hinted of a shakeup at the headquarters of the elections management body.

The ongoing restructuring it said will see the transfer of staff and the creation or realignment of departments and units.

“The commission has undertaken several review activities and I can say even on authority that within the shortest possible time; at most within three months, we should have a well-functioning communications unit”, Dr. Bossman has stated.

Citi News checks on the matter

Meanwhile, Citi News understands some key personnel at the Headquarters are being transferred out as part of the policy.

The Commission’s Director of Finance, Joseph Kwaku Asamoah will be moved to the Ashanti Region to head the Commission’s Training Centre there.

Eric Kofi Dzakpasu is also expected to be moved to the Volta Region as Regional Director, while his Deputy Yussif Ayuba, will be moved to a district office.
