Bolga, Wa And Tamale Affording Housing Projects To Resume Soon – Deputy Minister

Government has given the strongest indication that it will soon make a concrete decision about the Saglemi Housing project. It will be recalled that in 2012, the erstwhile National Democratic Congress (NDC) government began the construction of the Saglemi Affordable Housing project at Prampram in the Ningo Prampram District of the Greater Accra Region.

The facility was meant to be a 5000-residential unit facility to ease the accommodation deficit in the country.

It currently sits on a 300-acre land with one to three-bedroom flats for low-income earners.

Phase One of the US$200 million project saw the construction of 180 blocks comprising over 1,500 flats.

The project remains one of the most contentious housing projects in recent times but that is soon expected to change as the government has hinted that it is taking steps to put the facility to use.

This came to light when the Deputy Minister for Works and Housing who doubles as MP for Binduri, Abdulai Abanga.

“For Saglemi, I can tell you that in the not too distant future, the government will come out with a policy about Saglemi; permanent solutions to the issues and most Ghanaians will be happy about it,” he said.

Mr. Abanga said to address the over 2 million housing deficit, the government is creating conducive space to allow for private partners to begin to build affordable homes with government support.

Meanwhile, the Minister has also hinted that the Bolgatanga, Wa, Tamale and other similar housing projects dotted along the country would be worked on.
