Blame Insensitive Akufo-Addo For Fuel Price Hikes – Sammy Gyamfi

Vice President Dr Mahamadu Bawumia has been chastised by the NDC’s national communication officer for the country’s constant fuel price hikes.

Sammy Gyamfi, who recalled some of the promises made by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) before taking office in 2017, said the Akufo-Addo administration has taken Ghanaians for a ride.

Gyamfi made these comments on TV XYZ’s Dwaboase after a litre of diesel hit the 7 cedis level on Sunday, while petrol was sold at most pumps for 6.99 cedis.

Petroleum product prices have been steadily rising over the last six months, prompting commercial drivers to park their vehicles in protest in December of last year.

Gyamfi, the chief spokesperson for the major opposition party, chastised the administration for unfulfilled pledges, pointing to some “unnecessary levies” on the rise in fuel prices.

He also claimed that the government’s inability to stabilize the cedi in recent years was largely to blame for the increase in petrol prices, claiming that Dr Bawumia had failed to live up to the duty.

“When they were elected to power, Dr Bawumia criticized John Mahama, saying he was inept, and pledged to stabilize the dollar.” Gyamfi told host Prince Minkah, “He even came to gloat that he had arrested the dollar and delivered the keys to IGP, yet today the dollar is 6.7 cedis,” as he contended that the government was oblivious to the situation.
